The goal of our agricultural programming is to protect Marinette County’s famous water resources while maintaining the long-term viability of production agriculture. Marinette County has been working with farmers for more than 25 years to keep manure and cropland sediment out of surface and ground water. Marinette County participates in programs offered by the Wisconsin Departments of Natural Resources and Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. These State programs provide cost sharing to agricultural producers as incentives to voluntarily install and/or implement best management practices for water quality. Marinette County staff members administer the programs locally, design the practices, and offer technical assistance. In addition to protecting water quality, best management practices usually help make farm operations more efficient and profitable.
