Environmental Field Days began in the early 1990’s and have been held each year since to give Marinette County 4th graders an in-depth look at various environmental topics such as habitat, forestry & fire control, wildlife, composting, insects, geology, fisheries, and water quality. Natural resource professionals and volunteers present these topics to students in interesting, hands-on demonstrations that add to the fun and excitement of this unique learning experience. Attending teachers are also provided with an informational packet containing quiz materials to take back to the classroom.
The event takes place at four different locations throughout Marinette County and 987 students attended in 2010 and 2011. EFD is sponsored by several agencies including the Marinette County Land & Water Conservation Division, UW-Extension, and the Wisconsin DNR.
