"The mission of the Marinette County Land Information Department is to provide citizens, businesses, and government agencies with the information necessary to make wise land use decisions. Maintain land ownership, real estate assessment, and other geographic information system (GIS) data supporting promotion of public health, safety, and general welfare of all who live in or visit Marinette County. Sustain the natural resources of Marinette County by growing or maintaining programs for agriculture, water quality, lakes, sanitation, shoreland-wetland-floodplain zoning, environmental education, and municipal solid waste disposal."
Program Descriptions:
Property Listing Division staff use deeds and other recorded documents to map and list properties for assessment and taxation purposes.
Geographic Information System (GIS) Division staff continually maintain and upgrade the GIS Website, but most of the time is spent responding to requests for land information related data, helping local municipalities, County staff on various projects, and maintaining the County’s land information and survey data.
Zoning/Sanitary Division staff enforce several County Ordinances regulating development throughout the County, as well as dealing with amendments to Wisconsin Statutes and Administrative Codes concerning the implementation and enforcement of shoreland/floodplain zoning and the inventory and maintenance requirements for Private Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (POWTS).
Solid Waste Division staff continue Mar-Oco Landfill operation and long-term care of the North County Landfill.
Land & Water Conservation Division staff focus on conserving natural resources throughout the County. Activities include delivering Teaching Outdoor Awareness and Discovery (TOAD) environmental education programs to Marinette County schools and other entities; responding to requests for help from local government units and lake groups and; preventing the spread and working to eradicate aquatic invasive species, administering the Wildlife Damage Program, coordinating grants for projects on local farmsteads and cropland to reduce runoff pollution and to assist in implementing a variety of other conservation related projects.
